Conflicts Among Ethnicities

The difference between ethnicity and nationality is that nationality refers to where the origin of that person is from, whereas ethnicity refers to the racial ancestry of that person. Using myself as an example. my nationality is American because I was born in America, however my ethnicity is Brazilian because both my parents were born in Brazil, and ancestry were Brazilian.

Sri Lanka was in a violent civil war from 1989-2009 over ethnicity issues. Between two groups: the minority Tamils, and majority Sinhalese. Tamils claimed the Eastern and Northern parts of the country and wanted to seperate, shown to the right, however, the government didn't like this so they waged war on the Tamils, defeating them in 2009. In Lebanon, principal ethnic groups include: Armenians, Kurds, and groups from Europe. Lebanon experienced a time called the Lebanese Dispora. More Lebanese people actually live outside the country rather than in the country itself but in other European countries, due to the civil war taking place. Dispora Lebanese haven't reciceved the automatic right of return to their mother country.

The Kurds are a nationality divided among more than one state. Having over 22 million in population, their homeland had been divided and now lie within the borders of Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. Civil wars have led to the division, and ethnic groups haven't always been able to get along.

In Western Asia, you have many different ethinic groups like the Iraqis, which are mainly like Kurds, and Arabs, Irans which are mainly Persian, Afghanistans which are mainly associated with Pashtun, Tajik, and Hazara, the Taliban is a faction of the Pashtun group, and the Pakistanians who are mainly Punjabi. The problem with Western Asia is that there is a lack of correspondence between the territory occupied by ethnicities and nationalities which have led to conflict.
