Folk and Pop Culture in our Lives

Folk and Pop culture are most commonly different. Folk culture is mainly a group of people in a particular area who sees themselves as a community who share the same ideologies, customs, traits, and who also all work together to maintain that quality and trait so they are able to be themselves and not like the rest of the world, and/or their surroundings. They typically are small, and is cohesive in their traits also. Whereas, in Pop culture is mainly large, urban, and traits change quite often. Usually it is an up to date basis community in other words. With the new technology around nowadays, it is very easy for their traits to change because of how interconnected we are among eachother. Pop culture is known to have hierarchical diffusion when spreading new ideas. This is why pop culture can change in a matter of hours, even days. Since pop culture is heterogeneous, it is able to be practiced by many people, across the world different identities, whereas for Folk culture you'll only see it only being practiced in those small groups and regions, hence them being homogeneous.

Folk and Pop music are different in many ways. Folk music tends to be anonymous, and passed orally. Folk music is necessarily popular amoung a wide range of people. It is usually kept close in the community that the music is being derived from. The music is typically known, and common among thier daily life. Pop music is not necessarily aimed to be kept in a small group, but it is toward a performer to play for a audience. Usually aimed toward the youth side of things, its often commercially recorded, and spread globally. Often the songs range to be short in time. A famous pop culture artist would be someone like Justin Bieber, and for folk culture, the band to the right is what they may look like.

With sports being part of the world for as long as anyone could imagine, how were sports supposed to diffuse.  For Folk culture, for any ideas to be transmitted they would have to do it through word of mouth, but as popularity grew in sports how sports became distributed among people were not through word of mouth anymore which has always been what we did. With the ability to provide transportation more and more, the diffusion of small sports became larger and larger, and example of this would be soccer. Soccer became diffused into a larger business, which dominates the sports significally. In the beginning, in America, there were three main sports: Baseball, Football, and Basketball. Very popular during the early 20th century, they dominated the pop culture. Also, in the old times certain sports would stay in one place if it were popular, but as America began to modernize and get advanced in technology, sports began to move to different areas of the country, and started to bcome popular in many areas that it went to.
