The U.S. doesn't allow just for anyone to cross over into our country. There are some restrictions, and some preferences that go along the way, however, there are certain groups of immigrants who are allowed over. There are mainly 3 groups and they include: Family-Based Immigration, Work-Based immigration, and Refugees. Families are also given visas for this.
The population of unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. has began to stabilize over the recent years. At around 2007, the amount of immigrants had reached its peak at about 12.2 million. The growth had begun long before in  the 1980s continuing to grow up ward, and finally after the peak, began to decline and is now leveling off. You can see this in the image below. Statistics show that unauthorized immigrants make up about 5% of America's work force. Even though they are illegal they do make a big part of the work force. Most immigrants who come to the U.S. happen to be from Mexico. The rest are mainly people from Latin America, Central America, South Asia, and East Asia.

How does Europe and America feel about immigrants coming to their country? To talk about recent news with the largest amount of new-refugees needing new homes in both Europe and the U.S. feelings are most likely needed to be welcomed. In a recent survey done, Germans, British, and Americans seem to have the most positive attitudes toward immigrants coming to their country. This is a big difference for the U.S. because just in the 1990s, attitudes toward immigration was reversed. They saw this as a bad thing. However, some European countries as of now are still a little negative about immigration because they don't see the good in it, they see immigrants taking away from their country. Statistics are shown in the image below. In America, we are more concerned more with illegal immigration and steps onto how to keep our country safe regarding to the terrorist attacks in the past decade. In Europe, it is more of a culture thing, because they believe with the infusion of other people into their country culture will be lost also.
