Individual Languages in Places

In the United States, even though most people speak English, the way regions inside the U.S. varies. There are about 5 major different dialects in the U.S. Those include northern, midland, upland south, coastal south, and gulf south. Where in one region you may be used to saying, "Can I have soda?" in another region they aren't use to saying soda so they will switch soda with pop, so it would come out like, "Can I have pop?"

So what is the difference between dialect and language? Since dialect is variations of sounds and vocabulary in a language among different places and language is the system of communication using sounds, gestures, marks and signs, what differs them among eachother is that dialect is the different sounds and vocabulary that it is used in the system of communication to make it unique among different places.
